Statement by Draft Nader Committee

Ralph Nader's name recognition, media presence, organizational and fundraising capacity, qualifications, and accomplishments make him the strongest Green candidate to spearhead an electoral insurgency against the Iraq war, global warming, and the corporate-sponsored assault on constitutional rights, unions, and job and pension security, and for affordable health care, housing, transportation, and utilities.

By running Nader in order to have the biggest possible impact on the 2008 election, the Green Party will be able to move the national debate and define the issues around Green goals: ending the war, single-payer health care, renewable energy to stem global warming, electoral reforms to promote multi-party democracy, ending corporate domination of politics and economics.

By running a high impact campaign, the Green Party will present itself as a credible progressive alternative to the corporate-sponsored two-party system and its “bipartisan consensus,” shared by all the leading Democratic and Republican candidates: an imperial foreign and military policy, budget priorities that favor corporate and military interests over workers and communities, restricted constitutional rights, neglect for the environment.

A Nader campaign will support other Green candidates in 2008 through joint campaign appearances, statements of support, and the coattail effect of running with a strong national ticket that is advocating the positions that a majority of American support: out of Iraq, single-party health care, renewable energy, fair elections, re-ordering budget priorities from militarism to people's needs.

A Nader candidacy has the best chance of polling high and mobilizing public pressure to break into the presidential debates with the major party candidates.

Ralph Nader's decades of high profile advocacy for consumer and worker rights, environmental protection, and transparent, responsive government enables him to draw support from a broad base that encompasses all ethnic groups and regions and the poor, working, and middle classes. Nader has very high name recognition with the American public and they know that Ralph Nader stands up for justice for the little guys.
